Events
Each year, the JWCS hosts a variety of community events and activities:
|
|
|
As part of the mission to encourage, promote and support education, awards are granted to women graduating high school in the Spring. Members of the group meet to identify scholarship criteria, disseminate guidelines and deadlines to local high school Guidance Counselors and area service clubs. Applications are reviewed and recipients are selected. Club President(s) participate in award ceremony to announce winners. |
|
A family fun and food festival co-sponsored by the Sparta Parks and Recreation Department. Proceeds are collected from the sale of vendor spaces, JWCS event activities and sponsorships. This has been a JWCS event since 1975. |
|
Safety Village is a comprehensive safety education program for children entering kindergarten. Children learn about safety through fun and entertaining presentations, games and projects presented by both club members and community volunteers. This program covers animal, fire, traffic, bicycle, water, park, stranger, school bus, personal and telephone safety. Proceeds are collected from registration fees. This has been a JWCS event since 1991. |
Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF (October) |
Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF is an education and fundraising initiative that, for over 60 years, has given U.S. children, along with their parents and teachers, the opportunity to learn about their peers worldwide who are truly in need and to raise money on their behalf. |
Super Prize Bingo (November) |
This crowd-pleasing fundraiser is played like regular Bingo, except every prize is valued between $100-$500. Proceeds are collected through sponsorships, event admission and additional game-play the night of the event. JWCS hosted its inaugural Super Prize Bingo event in 2019. |
Wish Tree (November/December) |
A decorated Christmas Tree is displayed in the Sparta Public Library. The tree is decorated with hand-crafted ornaments each with a tag including information to purchase a gift for a child. Patrons take an ornament and return an unwrapped gift to the tree. The gifts are donated to the Division of Child Protection and Permanency (DCP&P). |
Santa Breakfast (December) |
This holiday event includes a delicious breakfast, games, story-time, a craft and a special visit and photo opportunity with Santa. Proceeds are collected through ticket sales. |
